Making my wedding:mother of the bride
It will be our first wedding anniversary in April and it was this time last year when all my ideas and plans for outfits and dresses were coming to fruition!
Mum and I enjoyed the designing process for her outfit… we spend some time looking for inspiration. Shapes and design features were sketched first to see that would work with the overall look. I was conscious I was only having 1 bridesmaid and to set a theme colour might not be a good idea for a cohesive look. So we kept it simple and opted for a ivory colour for my bridesmaid and mother of the bride. A bit of colour was injected into the guys suits and flowers!
For my sister’s wedding my mum wore a silk coat and dress and for mine, we opted for a jacket and skirt combo. The images below are some I pinned while researching. I love statement collars so this was definitely going to be an element of the jacket. The boxy jacket suited my mums shape and a slim skirt showed of her figure! My mum favours the styles worn by Jackie Kennedy, Queen Rania of Jordan and Amal Clooney. She likes clean lines and understated elegance.
The Valentino 2007 Winter collection was a great source of inspiration. We liked the drape and cut of the collar in pic number 4 and incorporated this into the jacket neckline.
Then I visualised a scalloped edged hemmed skirt . We were lucky to find a fabric that then went with the design so perfectly. The fabric was ivory duchess satin, there was an all over gold embroidery detail and it had the scallop edging which was used along the hem line.
The hat was bought from M&S and customised by adding net veiling. The shoes were Jenny Packham and bag made last minute to match!
